Intuition vs Fear

Truth be told this is probably one of the things I used to struggle with most when it came to letting my intuition lead. And being that we are in the midst of eclipse season - I thought it a pretty good time that I share some valuable tips on unpacking intuition vs fear.

There’s a big difference, let’s start there.

Your intuitive voice is the voice of your soul guiding you. The voice that randomly tells you not to go to that coffee with your friends - for no good reason other than just a ‘feeling’ and then you later find out from a message that your ex was seated at the table behind them.

Your intuition is the voice that says ‘go right’ when you’re walking aimlessly in nature and you then stumble across a magical little swimming hole that you otherwise would have had no idea was there.

It’s the call of your soul wisdom in response to the energy of the world around you, guiding you towards the environments, situations and experiences that are needed for your soul journey (that’s not to say your intuition always leads you to incredible events - but that’s a story for another day).

And then we have, the voice of fear.

Fear is that sudden hit in the stomach, that random though that pops into your head and your heart feels like it hits pause for a second.

But fear is great at masking; because it sneaks in through similar avenues to intuition and can almost convince you that it is the same thing when realistically - it’s not.

The biggest thing is, when you are sharpening or working with your intuition - you want to know that you are reacting to intuition and not reacting to fear. If you’re reacting to fear then, well your days could look like going to see every family member just because you had a feeling something bad was going to happen (aka. fear voice popped in).

Here’s the thing, fear and intuition - although they may be tricky to separate when fear is masking itself - actually can be quite easy to decipher, when you get in tune with your body.

When you are in tune with your body and it’s sensations, you can begin to notice how your body feels when you have an intuitive hit or when you have a fear based thought.

Here’s how it generally works. When you have an intuitive hit here’s what it can look like for your body:
- Feels calm, clear, and grounded.
- A sense of knowing without overthinking.
- Expansive or open in the heart space (no racing heart or sweating).
- Subtle but steady — it doesn’t rush or demand.
- Feels supportive, loving, and aligned.
- No urgency or emotional feeling.

Vs. here’s what a fear based thought can feel like in your body:
- Feels tight, constricted, or heavy.
- Racing mind or scattered energy.
- Knot in the stomach or clenching in the chest, fists etc.
- Tension in shoulders, jaw, or throat.
- Urgent, pushy, or panicky energy.
- Need to find comfort, seek validation, tell someone etc.
- Feels draining, contracting, and survival-driven.

When it’s laid out like that, even though the avenues that fear and intuition can come through may seem the same - they could not be more different.

So the next time you’re faced with the ‘is this intuition or fear?’ dilemma - use these key points to clear it up.

Much love,

Jen xx
